This year marks twenty years since the appearance of the first installment of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

And although it is a considerable chunk of time, the popularity of screen adaptations of Tolkien's novels is not declining. The films in the Lord of the Rings series have firmly established themselves in the cinematic canon and are productions to which one gladly returns. The series tells the story of a hobbit named Frodo, who, despite his small stature, is full of courage and ready to face evil, in direct combat.

The presented currency is issued as the official currency of New Zealand. Its reverse is decorated with the figure of Boromir - a noble knight and one of the members of the film Team of the Ring. The character is depicted with his trademark sword. On Boromir's right shoulder is an English inscription meaning "The blade that cut the ring from Sauron's hand" - a famous quote from the film. The obverse, while containing official elements of legal tender is also associated with the film production. Below the image of Queen Elizabeth II is the inscription Middle-Earth, the name of the land in which Tolkien's world is set.
