Fenghuang is a mythical bird derived from Chinese mythology depicted as the ruler of all birds, and is most commonly referred to as the Chinese phoenix in Western culture. Despite its name, the bird is not related to the phoenix as known in the Western world. Depicted as a creature composed of the combined elements of the bodies of several animals, it symbolizes the six heavenly bodies. Fenghuang is considered a symbol of grace and virtue, and is closely associated with the combination of yin and yang.

The reverse of the presented silver coin is decorated with a Chinese phoenix flying in the skies among the clouds. In the bird's beak one will notice a single flower and next to it the P symbol, characteristic of Perth Mint. The obverse of the coin shows the image of Queen Elizabeth II, along with information on the silver sample, the coin's weight, the date of issue and the denomination of $1.
