The theme of the collection is one of Australia's best-loved animals - the wombat. Loved by people for its appearance and for the fact that it can be easily tamed. Wombats are herbivores with a nocturnal lifestyle. They have long claws that help them dig underground passages. Some species of these friendly animals are critically threatened with extinction.
The featured silver coin from Australia's Perth Mint depicts the silhouette of a wombat in its natural habitat - a burrow dug into the ground, accessed by a network of intricate underground tunnels. At the top of the reverse was an inscription with the name of the series - "Wombat" - and below it the year of issue, weight and proof of the coin. On the reverse was the right profile of Queen Elizabeth, designed by J. Clark. As the recognized legal tender of Australia, the coin has a nominal value of 1 Australian dollar.
