A silver investment coin from the U.S. Mint Scottsdale Mint.

This series of silver bullion coins has been dedicated to the largest representative of primates - the mountain gorilla. Despite its impressive size, as well as its lack of natural enemies, this species has been considered extremely endangered, thanks to its ever-shrinking habitat. Despite being adapted to an arboreal lifestyle, these animals are too heavy and spend most of their time on the ground, with only young, lightweight individuals climbing trees.

The reverse of the coin shows the silhouette of a mountain gorilla emerging from the vegetation, proudly beating its chest. At the bottom is the inscription CONGO SILVERBACK GORILLA. The two paws of the gorilla are followed by information on the date of issue, as well as the metal and weight. The obverse depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Congo, along with the denomination of 500 Congolese francs. The coin is the country's legal tender.
