The Velociraptor was a small but very agile predatory dinosaur that lived around 75–71 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous period. It was about 2 meters long and weighed several kilograms, which is much smaller than often depicted in films. It had a distinctive curved claw on its hind leg, which it used to attack its prey. Its body was probably covered with feathers, making it closer to birds than reptiles as we understand them today. The velociraptor was an intelligent hunter, and the structure of its skull indicates well-developed senses. Although it has become a pop culture icon, in reality it looked slightly different from its movie versions.

The reverse of the silver coin features a dynamic scene with a velociraptor in a tense movement, trying to capture a small, mouse-like creature. The artistic composition emphasizes the predatory nature of the dinosaur – its raised, curved claw and slender silhouette ready to attack are clearly visible. The date of issue of the coin and information about the period in which the velociraptor lived are placed in the background of the composition, giving the design additional educational value and paleontological context.
