Napoleon Angel is the first bullion coin in a new series issued by the East India Company.
The coin was issued to commemorate the life and death of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Bonaparte is undoubtedly one of Europe's most important historical figures. The French commander and politician clearly made history by achieving many spectacular victories in wars around the world. Napoleon died on May 5, 1821 while in exile on the island of St. Helena. Initially it was suspected that the French emperor may have been poisoned, but modern scientists have been unable to confirm this. Today, the most likely scenario seems to be cancer.
The featured silver bullion coin was issued on the 200th anniversary of Napoleon's death. Its reverse depicts an angel standing guard over the grave of the great French leader. The rim contains information about the weight of the coin, the silver proof, as well as the inscription "Angel" and the logo of the East India Company. On the reverse you will find one of the approved images of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin is the official legal tender of the Island of St. Helena and carries a denomination of £1.
