The currency is the official means of payment within the state of Rwanda.

The African eagle, an martial eagle, is a majestic bird of prey inhabiting the vast savannas and forests of sub-Saharan Africa. It is a symbol of strength and courage, which is evident in its powerful talons and broad wings that enable it to successfully attack its prey. Its plumage, usually dark with white spots, allows it to hide in thickets of trees. This eagle hunts small mammals, birds and sometimes even young antelope, making it one of the most dangerous hunters among birds. Proud and independent, the African warrior eagle has inspired many African cultures for centuries, often appearing in legends as a guardian and symbol of freedom.

The reverse of this silver bullion coin shows a pair of martial aeagles, an adult bird and a baby chick in a nest. Behind them, traditionally, the outline of the African continent is placed, as in the whole series. The rim reads the name of the series, the date of issue, the silver proof and the weight of the coin. The obverse of the coin is decorated with Rwanda's coat of arms, next to which we can read the denomination of 50 Rwandan francs.
