The Tudor Beasts: Yale of Beaufort 2023 Silver Coin, 2 ounce

Beasts of the Tudors is a series that replaced the incredibly popular Beasts of the Queen collection.

The collection began in 2022 - as a tribute to the Queen, celebrating her platinum jubilee that year - the 70th anniversary of her assumption of the British throne. That year also turned out to be the date of Elizabeth II's death, although this was something the series' creators could not have predicted. The bullion coin series began with the issuance of a coin depicting the likeness of the Lion of England. Earlier, a proof issue also released the Seymour Panther.

The reverse of the presented two troy ounce silver investment coin features an image of a creature called "yale" in English. In appearance, it resembles a cross between a goat and an antelope. The animal is depicted together with a coat of arms shield. The rim of the reverse included the name of the coin, the year of issue and the sample of silver used in the production of the coin. The coin is, of course, official legal tender of the United Kingdom, with a face value of 5 British pounds. It is possible that this is the last coin in the Tudor Beasts series to feature the likeness of Elizabeth II on the obverse.
