We present the first in a series of silver coins issued by the Australian Mint Perth Mint. The series is another dedicated to Australian flora, and this time it is about the emu bird. Emu are endemic birds, found only in Australia. In appearance, they somewhat resemble ostriches, but are slightly inferior to them in size. These birds live in steppe areas with little vegetation - they avoid forest and metropolitan areas.
The reverse shows the emu bird in all its splendor running through the steppe landscape of Australia. The bushy vegetation typical of the area can be seen in the background. At the top of the coin is the name of the series - Astralian Emu, at the bottom is the date of issue weight and silver sample. The obverse is classic for the coin series from Perth, showing a profile of Queen Elizabeth II, along with denomination and currency information. The coin is legal tender in Australia.
