We present a unique set of two silver coins from the Ragnarök series, produced by Germania Mint. The collection draws on the Norse vision of the end of the world, during which a final confrontation between the gods and powerful beings takes place, and the existing order is destroyed. Both coins are made of 999-fine silver, and their surfaces are enhanced with yellow gold and ruthenium plating, which highlight the detail of the design and give it a distinctive character. The Geminus set stands out for the ability to place the coins side by side so that their reverse sides form a single, elaborate scene depicting Thor and Jörmungandr facing off in a deadly duel. It is precisely this clash that constitutes one of the most dramatic episodes in Norse mythology, in which victory does not mean salvation, as both opponents ultimately perish.

 

The obverse of the first coin depicts Thor, one of the most powerful gods of the Norse pantheon, master of thunder and storms. In his hand is Mjölnir, the legendary hammer symbolizing strength, protection, and destructive power. The second coin depicts Jörmungandr, the enormous Serpent of Midgard, whose terrifying silhouette reflects his extraordinary role in mythology. Both depictions show the adversaries approaching a decisive clash, creating a dynamic composition that allows the viewer to see the impending battle from the perspective of both figures. The juxtaposition of the two obverse designs highlights the contrasting natures of the heroes, as well as their inextricable link to the prophecy of Ragnarök. The coin’s reverse sides complete the story of Thor’s clash with Jörmungandr, utilizing symbols deeply rooted in Norse mythology. One of them depicts Mjölnir, the thunder god’s iconic weapon, which has been associated for centuries with his extraordinary strength and ability to defeat powerful foes. The second reverse refers to Jörmungandr and his form as a serpent encircling Midgard, one of the most recognizable motifs in Norse legends. The designs are complemented by a double-headed eagle, which is the coat of arms of Germania Mint and a signature element of the mint’s designs.

Both coins were designed by Kinga Sabatowicz, and the mintage of the set is limited to just 500 sets, each containing two coins weighing one ounce each. The coins are struck in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, and their authenticity is confirmed by the included Certificate of Authenticity. The coins are housed in a special figure-eight capsule, which allows them to be properly displayed and kept in good condition. The set is complemented by an elegant blister pack, whose design harmonizes with the theme of the issue and highlights its collectible nature. The limited mintage, the combination of two complementary designs, and the use of gold and ruthenium make this set an attractive option for collectors of silver coins inspired by Norse mythology.
