Silver Coin 20 Francs 1929-1939, 20g.
Silver circulating coin with a weight of 20 grams and a silver purity of 0.680
A 20 franc coin issued between 1929 and 1939.
Along with the 10-franc coin, France also issued a 20-franc silver coin between 1929 and 1939, its larger and more valuable counterpart. The two coins share many characteristics - both stylistic and ideological - and are excellent examples of French mint craftsmanship of the interwar period. The 20-franc coin retains the same artistic style as the 10-franc coin. The obverse depicts the head of a woman - the personification of the Republic (Marianne), wearing a wreath of oak leaves. The reverse features the inscription "20 FRANCS," the date of issue, the slogan "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité," and a centrally placed sheaf of grain - a symbol of labor, fertility and community. This distinctive design by Pierre Turin is considered one of the most beautiful achievements of French numismatics between the wars.
These coins were part of the post-World War I monetary reform aimed at stabilizing the economy and restoring confidence in the franc. The 1930s were a time of economic crisis, growing social and political tensions - in this context, precious bullion coins were not only a means of payment, but also a symbol of stability and continuity of statehood.
The presented coin is a circulation coin, it may have scratches, abrasions and dings. The photo is illustrative - the shipped coin may differ in its state of preservation. The coin is sent randomly - it is not possible to indicate a specific vintage.
