African Ounce: Mountain Gorilla 2023, 1 oz Silver Coin

The coin is the 15th anniversary edition of this popular series from Rwanda.

The series was launched in 2008; the latest edition is its 15th. This time the coin depicts the mountain gorilla, which is one of the largest and most powerful primates inhabiting the Earth. It is endemic to the mountains of East Africa with an impressive size. Males reach a body weight of 160 to 200 kilograms, and their standing height can be about 1.7 meters. They have a strong body structure, a broad chest and powerful arms that allow them to move both on four limbs and upright. Males have a distinctive bright spot on their back, a sign that they have reached full maturity.

On the reverse of the silver value we see a family of mountain gorillas; a male, a female and a baby gorilla. Traditionally for the series, they are shown against the background of the African continent. The left side features a small privy mark with the number 15 to commemorate the anniversary of the edition. The obverse shows us the emblem of Rwanda along with the denomination, 50 Rwandan francs. The coin is legal tender in the country.
