Copper Round Walking Liberty, 1 oz.
One of the most popular American designs of the copper version.
The copper medal is an interesting option for precious metals investors and enthusiasts alike.
The Walking Liberty design, originally featured on silver half-dollars minted from .900 sterling silver from 1916 to 1947, is one of the most recognizable, classic graphic variants found on U.S. circulation coins. In 1915, the new director of the mint, Robert W. Woolley, came to the conclusion that the law not only allowed him, but actually required him to replace the coin designs that had been in use for 25 years. So he began the process of replacing the coins designed by longtime mint engraver Charles E. Barber; dimes, quarters and half-dollars.
The obverse of the copper coin depicts the familiar image of "Walking Liberty," the personification of one of the most important American values. Liberty is depicted against a background of a rising sun, carrying a bunch of olive branches in her hand. The reverse depicts an American eagle perched on a rock. At the very top is the weight of the medal and the indication of the sample of bullion from which it was made.
