The Aztec Sun Stone, also known as the Aztec Calendar Stone, is a huge stone shield that is one of the most famous artifacts of Aztec art and astronomy. Its official name is "Calendar Stone" or "Piedra del Sol" in Spanish. The Sun Stone served as a calendar that tracked time in astronomical and religious cycles. Its reliefs and inscriptions contain complex information about astrology, the calendar and Aztec mythology. The central disk of the stone represents the fifth world, which according to Aztec mythology was the present world.
