This circulation coin is made of .900 silver
The coin shown here is a 25-cent circulation coin, commonly known as a quarter. The coin made its debut in 1796; like the 10-cent coins, it was initially struck in .900 silver, but since 1964, this alloy has been replaced by copper-nickel. The decision to use 25 cents as the coin’s denomination, rather than the more common decimal system, stems from the old practice of dividing Spanish dollars. These coins were cut into 8 equal pieces. Two such pieces were equal to a quarter.
The reverse of the silver coin features a left-facing profile of the first President of the United States, George Washington. At the very top is the English equivalent of the word “Liberty,” and at the bottom is the motto “In God We Trust.” The obverse features an American eagle perched on a tree branch, with an olive branch visible at the bottom. At the very bottom is the denomination: “Quarter Dollar.”
Each coin contains approximately 5.62 g of pure silver. We ship coins from random years—it is not possible to select a specific variant.
The products shown are circulation coins. They may have scratches, dirt, scuffs, or other imperfections resulting from circulation. We ship the coins in plastic pouches.
