The silver coin featuring the image of the tragically deceased President John F. Kennedy is the second-to-last circulating 1/2-dollar coin made of silver. In 1969, a new issue of this coin was introduced, though with a reduced weight of 11.5 grams and a fineness of 0.800. This coin was created under tragic circumstances, as the idea behind it was to commemorate the death of the 35th President of the United States.

The reverse of the silver coin features a left-facing profile of the U.S. president. Above his head, encircling the image, is the inscription “LIBERTY,” characteristic of American coins. At the bottom is the motto “In God We Trust,” and at the very bottom is the date of issue. The obverse, in turn, depicts an eagle—the emblem of the United States—holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. At the very bottom is the denomination 1/2 USD.
