The Aztec Sun Stone, also known as the Aztec Calendar, was a giant circular stone more than 3 meters in diameter used by the Aztecs to measure time. The stone was made of basalt and weighs about 25 tons. The Sun Stone represents the Aztecs' cosmic vision, which combines their religious beliefs with mathematics and astronomy. Various carvings and symbols are depicted on the stone, including figures of gods, signs of the zodiac and symbols of the solar cycle.

The Aztecs used the Sun Stone to mark the dates of important events, such as religious ceremonies and cyclical rituals, and to determine the movement of celestial bodies in the sky. The stone was also used as a political tool, as it made it possible to control time and maintain power. The reverse of the medal shows a reproduction of the inscriptions found on the original stone. The obverse shows a profile of Cuatemoca, the last of the Aztec Empire's rulers.
