"Eagle: Roots of the Nation" Collector's Medal: The Unbroken, 29 grams

A collector's medal inspired by Polish patriotic symbols. 

“The Unbroken: Memory and Freedom” is a unique collector’s medal dedicated to those who, during the most difficult moments in Polish history, had the courage to resist oppression and fight for their homeland’s freedom. Its design was conceived as a symbolic tribute to the heroes for whom independence, honor, and fidelity to their own values were more important than personal safety. This piece not only evokes the dramatic chapters of history but also prompts reflection on the immense price that successive generations had to pay for freedom.

The central feature on the obverse is the silhouette of a Polish insurgent, shown from behind, with a rifle in his hand and a white-and-red armband on his shoulder. His solitary figure stands in stark contrast to the image of a destroyed city in the background. The ruins evoke memories of the reality of war, the sheer scale of the destruction, and the tragedy that befell Warsaw and its residents. At the same time, the insurgent’s upright figure, despite the chaos and devastation surrounding him, exudes strength and determination. He becomes a symbol of a man who does not give up even in the face of an almost hopeless situation and remains faithful to the idea of fighting for freedom. In the foreground is “Fighting Poland”—the distinctive Kotwica emblem, which has become permanently etched in memory as a symbol of Polish resistance and the struggle against the occupier. Its presence lends the depiction an even deeper historical dimension, and its juxtaposition with the white and red colors further reinforces the patriotic character of the composition. The whole is complemented by the striking inscription “NIEZŁOMNI – PAMIĘĆ I WOLNOŚĆ” (The Unbroken – Memory and Freedom). This is not merely the title of the medal, but also a message reminding us that freedom is not a value granted once and for all, and that the memory of those who were willing to sacrifice everything for it constitutes an important part of our national heritage.

The reverse retains the elegant style characteristic of the “Roots of the Nation” series. At its center is an intricately crafted “KN” monogram, which serves as the collection’s official emblem. It is surrounded by a decorative wreath of oak branches. The oak, which for centuries has symbolized strength, resilience, durability, and longevity, fits perfectly with the medal’s message. Its deeply rooted branches can be interpreted as a metaphor for historical memory, while the spreading branches symbolize successive generations that carry on the legacy left by their predecessors.
