The design of this coin draws on Poland’s rich history.

This medal is the fourth installment in the acclaimed Polish bullion series “Husaria,” dedicated to one of the most legendary cavalry units in European history. The collection draws inspiration from the legacy of the hussars—the elite, heavily armed cavalry of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which in the 16th and 17th centuries became a symbol of the military might and effectiveness of Polish arms. Their distinctive wings, extensive armament, and the extraordinary force of their charges have permanently enshrined this unit in history. However, their successes were determined not only by courage and bravery, but also by excellent training, iron discipline, appropriate tactics, and flawless organization of operations on the battlefield.

The reverse of the silver medal depicts a dynamic scene of a hussar charge, perfectly capturing the power, speed, and determination of this famous cavalry unit. The obverse, meanwhile, depicts the fortress at Smolensk, whose capture in 1611 was one of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth’s most significant military victories. The fall of this mighty stronghold opened the way for Polish troops toward Moscow and became one of the most spectacular events of the great offensive in the east. It also led to the accession to the Moscow throne of the Polish prince Władysław IV Vasa, later King of Poland—an exceptional event in the turbulent history of Polish-Russian relations. The central part of the obverse is adorned with the coat of arms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a striking symbol of the statehood and power of ancient Poland. At the bottom is the fictional denomination “1 Polish Grosz,” which underscores the medal’s collectible and symbolic nature. The combination of historical themes, a dynamic depiction of the hussars, and a reference to one of the Republic’s most important military victories makes the fourth installment of the “Husaria” series an intriguing option for both enthusiasts of Polish history and collectors of unique items inspired by the history of Polish military tradition.
