This limited edition of 2,000 pieces is the latest installment in a series issued by the Gdańsk Mint.

“The Crossroads of Crows” is a short story by Andrzej Sapkowski set in the world of The Witcher, depicting the youth of Geralt of Rivia and his early days on the path to becoming a witcher. The story portrays Geralt as an inexperienced apprentice who is just learning his craft, facing his first monsters, difficult choices, and the distrust of others. Along the way, he encounters both those in need of help and those who try to take advantage of his youth and inexperience. The story illustrates how Geralt’s views on good, evil, and a witcher’s neutrality take shape. Another important element of the story is the clash between young Geralt’s idealistic approach and the brutal realities of a world where there isn’t always a clear-cut distinction between heroes and villains.

The coin impresses with its rich relief, in which numerous, intricately crafted details evoke the distinctive atmosphere of The Witcher universe. Selective gilding effectively highlights the figure of Geralt and his sword, drawing attention to the central point of the composition. Red UV printing adds further drama to the scene, evoking the brutality of the clash and the visible traces of blood. The design is complemented by a striking 3D insert inspired by a millwheel, which clearly protrudes beyond the surface of the relief, lending the design a sense of spatiality and depth.

The reverse depicts a young Geralt of Rivia battling Mamutak—a fearsome, bird-like monster. This dynamic scene shows the witcher in the early stages of his journey, as successive battles with monsters allow him to gain experience and hone his skills. The composition captures the harsh nature of a world where accepting even a seemingly ordinary contract can mean a life-or-death struggle.

The obverse features a mysterious forest landscape and a path leading deep into an unknown world. The design also incorporates Geralt’s two swords, the silhouette of a raven, and rich ornamentation reminiscent of the style of The Witcher universe. The design is complemented by information regarding the issue: Niue 2026, face value of 5 dollars, and silver fineness of Ag 999.
