The series is related to astronomy and one of the constellations - the Southern Cross constellation.

Looking in terms of magnitude, it is the eighty-eighth constellation of the sky - the last to be classified. The first mention of this constellation of stars dates back to ancient times and the records of ancient Greek and Roman scientists. Modern residents of the area can no longer admire the Southern Cross constellation - around 400 AD it ceased to be visible from the old continent as a result of the natural movements of the globe. Today the constellation is visible only from the southern hemisphere of the Earth.

The 2020 vintage is a chance to complete the series with the first Beneath the Southern Sky coin. It differs from its 2021 successor in symbolism - a small kangaroo symbol has been placed instead of a pecker in the place corresponding to the location of the city of Sydney. The obverse of the coin differs only in the year of issue, which was placed near the right edge.
