Giants of the Ice Age: Mamut 2019, 1 oz Silver Coin

The coin series refers to the largest animals that lived during the Ice Age.

The new series of silver bullion coins will count eight issues, each dedicated to a different prehistoric creature. The first coin in the series presents us with a silhouette of a mammoth. This was a large mammoth, adapted to cold climatic conditions, which lived on Earth for many thousands of years, and the last mammoth species became extinct about 4,000 years ago. Mammoths were large animals. Most species had a height at the withers of 2.5 to 4 meters and reached a weight of 5 to 10 tons. Thus, they were much larger than today's African elephants.

The reverse shows the silhouette of a large mammoth. What strikes the eye are its huge tusks, called blows. In the background we have a mountainous, glacial landscape shown. Around the perimeter, pictograms are shown depicting other animals whose images will appear on subsequent issues of the series. At the very bottom is the year of issue of the coin. The obverse shows us the Ghanaian coat of arms along with the denomination 5 Cedis.
