On the reverse of the value we see the majestic head of an African buffalo, one of the animals counted among the Big Five. The entire design is reminiscent of traditional African tribal shields. The name of the animal appears at the very top, while the denomination appears at the bottom. The obverse depicts the Sierra Leone coat of arms in the center, with two lions supporting the shield of the coat of arms. At the very bottom is the date of issue.
