Silver Coin African Ounce: Okapi 2021, 1 oz

This is the thirteenth installment of the series, this time with the image of Okapi.

Okapi is a species of animal that is endemic to the rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Central Africa. It is characterized by its unique appearance, which is a combination of the characteristics of a giraffe and a horse. It has a long neck and legs, but unlike the giraffe, the neck is considerably shorter. Their coat is thick and short, brown and purple in color on the back, and they have white stripes on the belly, just like zebras. One of the most distinctive features of okapi is their long tongue, which can reach up to 35 centimeters and is used to retrieve leaves from trees.

The reverse shows us a pair of okapi, an adult and a juvenile. The adult animal reaches out with its tongue toward the leaves of the trees. Above them is an outline of the African continent, which is the subject of the valentine. Around it, we can see the name of the series, the date of issue, as well as the coin's weight and silver purity test. The obverse features the coat of arms of the republic of Rwanda in the center, while the denomination, in this case 50 Rwandan francs, is placed at the very bottom.
