The silver medal is dedicated to the mythical Bong-Hwang whois often referred to as the Korean phoenix. Unlike the Western phoenix, which is reborn from the ashes, Bonghwang is considered a particularly good and lucky bird that does not die and never descends to earth. According to Korean mythology, Bonghwang is a symbol of happiness, peace and justice. In Korean art and culture, the bird is often depicted as an ornamental motif on ceramics, paintings and other works.

The reverse depicts two Korean phoenixes facing each other. The phoenix placed on the right side additionally holds a pearl, a symbol of Asia, in its beak. At the very top is the name of the country, while at the very bottom is the name of the manufacturer along with the designation of the metal and its test. The obverse shows a phoenix soaring in the air, holding a pearl in its beak. At the bottom is the name of the coin and the date of issue.
