5 Nevada Goldback Gold Note, 1/200 oz

Gold banknotes are not only an investment in bullion, but quite a treat for lovers of U.S. history.

The idea behind the creation of goldbacks was to create an alternative to traditional money. These means of payment, unlike regular money, are based on gold. It is a form of paper, or basically foil currency, which aims to provide stability of value by combining it with the actual, physical gold from which goldbacks are made. The 5 Goldback bill on display contains 0.155 grams of pure gold in the form of a metallic layer applied to a polymer film.

On the presented Goldback this time we can see the virtue Sophia, representing wisdom. She appears as the Greek goddess of this attribute, Athena. Sophia represents divine inspiration and progress, and one can find many symbols and inventions specific to Nevada in her surroundings. We see libraries and university buildings, scrolls, a quill, ink, Mark Twain books or a silver mine carriage along with the state's locomotive. Worth noting is an open scroll depicting the words of the 15th Amendment. Nevada was the first state to adopt it, allowing equal voting rights in the state, regardless of skin color.
