Gold bill with a denomination of 10 Goldbacks from the state of Oklahoma.
Goldback Inc. is a privately owned Utah-based mint that became famous for creating the world's first physical, convertible currency made of gold. This pioneering achievement was made possible by patented vacuum gold application technology, which allows for extremely precise placement of a measured amount of 24-karat bullion on a durable polymer substrate. The result is a flexible, durable yet aesthetically pleasing banknote that combines the function of a practical means of payment with the value of the gold itself. Goldbacks have the distinction of being a unique form of fractional ownership of gold, available in small denominations for actual use in everyday transactions. Although they are accepted voluntarily, they have gained the status of local currency in several US states - including Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Florida and Oklahoma. Each bill is not only a carrier of bullion value, but also a work of art. Goldbacks' designs reference the local virtues, history and heritage of each state, showcasing the richness of their culture and symbolism. As a result, the banknotes serve a dual role - they are both beautiful, collectible objects and a practical tool for storing and circulating gold in everyday life.
The Oklahoma 10 Goldback banknote pays tribute to the virtue of Unitas, or Unity. Oklahoma is home to the largest number of Native American tribes than any other U.S. state, and the graphic depicted on it shows an intertribal ritual. In the center of the composition, a woman performs the Fancy Shawl dance, while behind her a man presents the male Fancy Dance. The female dancer is wearing a richly decorated shawl with tassels, whose movements mimic the flutter of wings, embodying the grace and lightness of a butterfly and hummingbird. The characters in this scene are not symbolic - they are real people. The dancer is Mike Pahsetopah of the Osage Nation, world champion Fancy dancer, cultural ambassador and author. At the center is his daughter, Heaven, an acclaimed Fancy Shawl dancer who performs across the country and on HBO. On her initiative, a ruby hummingbird, a symbol of renewal, was introduced to the stage. Visible in the distance is the American buffalo - Oklahoma's state animal and an age-old symbol of survival for indigenous peoples. Next to the dancer, a majestic raven - guardian of sacred knowledge - lifts a ribbon with the inscription Unitas. Black swallowtail butterflies swirl in the sky, repeating the movement of the scarf. At the feet of the dancers bloom Indian blanket flowers, Oklahoma's state wildflowers. This work is a celebration of the achievements of indigenous communities, a tribute to Oklahoma's deep indigenous heritage and a reflection of the sacred bonds that bind people, place and tradition. At the bottom of the composition are the words of a timeless truth: "Walk in harmony with all that exists."
