Grenada is a small island state located in the Grenadines archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the smallest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Grenada is sometimes called the island of spices, taken from the fact that it is where the world's most prized nutmeg comes from. Nutmeg is one of the island's three main crops. It is to this plant that the presented coin was dedicated.
The reverse of the silver coin shows a nutmeg tree as it releases its ripe nutmeg fruit. The tree is placed on a hill, with the branches of other trees visible on the sides. At the top is the inscription GRENADA, along with the date of issue. The obverse shows the right profile of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin was issued by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and is legal tender for all 8 EC8 countries.
