Silver Coin Pirate Queens: Mary Read 2022, 1 ounce

A series devoted to the queens of the seas, whose reputation inspired terror in many a daredevil.

The third and at the same time the last installment in the series started by The Royal Australian Mint with a mintage of up to 10,000 copies whose theme refers to the legendary pirates. This time the coin is dedicated to British pirate Mary Read, a woman who for a long period of her life had to disguise herself as a man named "Mark" in order to survive. In 1720 she met the pirates Anne Bonny and Calico Jack, and since then together they have ruled the seas sowing terror.

The reverse of the cylinder depicts Mary Read's ship with her flag raised. Her ship is moving away from another ship, which is fuming in the background as a result of cannon damage. The lower part of the reverse features the iconic symbol of pirates - a skull and crossed sabers. At the upper right edge one notices the inscription Mary Read, while on the left side the coin's weight and silver sample. The obverse of the coin depicts the face of Queen Elizabeth, making the coin the official currency in the Solomon Islands
