The Velociraptor was a relatively small but extremely agile predator that inhabited the Earth around 75–71 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous period. It grew to about 2 meters in length and weighed only a dozen or so kilograms, which means that it was actually much smaller than its movie counterparts. Its most distinctive feature was a large, sickle-shaped claw on its hind leg, used during hunting to deliver precise blows. Everything indicates that the velociraptor's body was covered with feathers, which makes it closer to modern birds than typical reptiles in the common understanding. Analysis of its skull structure suggests well-developed senses and considerable intelligence, which made it an effective hunter. Although pop culture has created an idealized image of it, the real velociraptor looked slightly different than it does on screen.

The reverse of the silver coin depicts a dynamic hunting scene – a velociraptor in tension and motion attacking a small, mouse-like animal. The composition emphasizes the predatory nature of the dinosaur: a clearly marked, raised claw and a slender, bent silhouette capture the moment just before the prey is caught. The background features the date of issue and information about the period in which the velociraptor lived, enriching the design with additional paleontological and educational context. The precisely reproduced details give the reverse depth and make it attractive to both collectors and prehistory enthusiasts.
