Queen's Beasts is a series of coins launched to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 2018. The first coin from the collection was premiered in early 2016 - since then, 2 more coins from the collection have been issued each year. The series is inspired by the heraldry of British families associated with the British throne.
The White Lion of the Mortimers is the eighth coin in the Queen's Beasts series. Many members of the British royal family are associated with this coat of arms - including Edward IV of York - King of England from 1461 to 1483. The coin's reverse depicts a lion in a seated position holding a shield. The rim bears the inscription "White Lion of Mortimer," the weight of the coin and the sample of silver used in the production. On the obverse we find the figure of Queen Elizabeth II and the coin's denomination - 5 British pounds (GBP).
