2002 Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin, 1 oz.
The Australian Kookaburra is one of the more popular coins minted by Australia's oldest mint in Perth.
The Australian Kookaburra is another coin from Perth referring to Australia's natural wealth.
The now world-famous silver kookaburra coin is the work of Perth Mint. It is the official bullion mint of Australia wholly owned by the government of Western Australia. It was established on June 20, 1899, two years before Australia's federation in 1901 Together with the Royal Australian Mint - which produces the country's circulating coins - Perth Mint is the senior of two Australian mints issuing legal tender investment products. One of them is the Kokaburra silver coin, which debuted on the market in 1990. Its reverse changes every year, but it always depicts an Australian bird against a background of the flora of Oceania. The regular change of design makes and limited mintage makes the Kookaburra silver coin have a much higher collector value than other popular investment coins.
The reverse of the silver bullion coin shows a flying kookaburra with its wings spread wide. In the background below it is placed the outline of the Australian continent. Around it are inscriptions with the name of the coin's series, its weight, the sample of silver from which it was made, as well as the date of issue. The coin's obverse has remained unchanged from previous editions of the series - it features Queen Elizabeth II inverted in right profile.
