St. George and Dragon 2024, 1 oz Silver Coin

The coin alludes to a centuries-old English legend with its image.

The silver value is a new offering from Royal Mint inspired by the figure of St. George, the patron saint of England. Saint George was a Roman soldier and Christian who lived in the third century. According to legend, he traveled the world spreading the Christian faith. One day he ended up in the town of Silene in Libya, where the inhabitants were being terrorized by a fearsome dragon. Saint George defeated the dragon in battle, and thus saved the residents and the king's daughter, who was to be sacrificed to the dragon.

The reverse of the silver investment coin depicts a scene when St. George, fighting on horseback, is preparing to deal the dragon a final blow. He is clad in a tunic and wears a Roman helmet with a plume on his head. He is armed with a long spear, with which he intends to pierce the dragon's body. The obverse of the silver coin depicts the right profile of the current ruler of the Kingdom of Great Britain, King Charles III. The coin is official legal tender in the United Kingdom, and its denomination is £2.
