The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the most important naval battles of World War II.

The Battle for Iwo Jima was one of the most fierce naval battles of World War II, fought on the island of Iwo Jima, which was a strategic target for the Allies in their march toward Japan. The battle lasted from February 19 to March 26, 1945. The island was a key point of defense for Japan because of its airfield, which could be used to intercept U.S. bombing planes reaching Japan. American naval and infantry forces launched a landing on the island, meeting strong resistance from Japanese defenders, who were heavily fortified in bunker and tunnel systems. As a result of the Battle of Iwo Jima, the Allies captured the island, allowing them to use the airfield to conduct further bombing operations toward Japan.

On the reverse of the silver coin, we see a symbolic moment depicted, when a group of Allied soldiers places an American flag on the captured island. At the very top, the name of the coin is shown in the rim, while the number 75 is also placed in the center and the MMXX written in Roman. The obverse shows us a profile of Queen Elizabeth II along with the year of issue and the denomination of 1 Australian dollar.
