Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin 2008, 2 oz.

The coin continues the series with one of Australia's most recognizable birds.

The kookaburra, thanks precisely to silver coins with its likeness, has become an almost iconic bird and one that is inextricably associated with Australia. The bird also has an important place in Australia's Aboriginal culture. In many Aboriginal myths and stories, the kookaburra is often depicted as a figure with powerful magical powers and supernatural abilities. Because of their interesting appearance and distinctive sound, the kookaburra is often appreciated by locals and foreigners who visit "kangaroo island."

The reverse of the silver coin invariably shows us the kookaburra, but in a different situation every year. On the 2008 coin, we see this bird sitting on a branch, gazing at a spider web suspended beneath it. At the top is the name of the coin, and at the very bottom is the year of issue. The obverse shows the right profile of Queen Elizabeth II, and below it we can see the denomination, 2 Australian dollars, as the coin is full legal tender in that country.
