The Somali Leopard's mintage is only 30,000 pieces.
African Wildlife is a series of bullion coins dedicated to African wildlife. It includes two series of values; the Somali Elephant and the Somali Leopard. The coin presented here with an image of a leopard is the sixth edition of this series. The theme is the spotted leopard, which is found throughout Africa, including Somalia. It is the world's compact largest cat, and is unfortunately threatened with extinction in many regions.
The reverse of this silver cylinder depicts a leopard creeping through the grasses of the savannah. The very top bears the name of the AFRICAN WILDLIFE series, while the bottom bears the name of the animal and information on the weight and sample of silver the coin was made from. The obverse depicts the coat of arms of the Somali state, the shield of the coat of arms is just supported by two leopards in it. At the bottom is the denomination of the coin, while in the middle is the date of issue.
