The Giant Deer, or Megaloceros giganteus, is one of the extinct members of prehistoric megafauna to which Germania Mint has dedicated another issue in its series. Megaloceros giganteus once inhabited vast areas of Europe and Asia, and its most distinctive feature was the impressive spread of its antlers. This time, the image of this extraordinary animal has been rendered on a gold coin, lending the issue an exceptionally noble character.

The obverse depicts the Giant Deer in a setting characteristic of its natural habitat. The monumental silhouette of the deer is shown among trees and prehistoric vegetation, allowing the composition to evoke a world from thousands of years ago. Particular attention is drawn to the massive antlers, whose widely spread beams dominate the entire scene and perfectly capture the extraordinary size of this extinct species. The naturalistic depiction makes the image resemble a fragment of the ancient world frozen in time. The reverse side maintains the characteristic style of the Megafauna series, combining paleontological motifs with elements that suggest a continuation of the story.
