Gungnir holds a unique place in Norse mythology as the invincible spear belonging to Odin—the ruler of the gods and one of the most important deities in the Germanic pantheon. According to legend, this weapon was forged by extraordinary dwarven craftsmen, the Sons of Ivaldi, who created it as a gift for the supreme ruler of Asgard. Gungnir possessed supernatural power—once thrown, it never missed its target, regardless of distance or obstacles in its path. Its inevitability meant that, over time, it became a symbol of destiny, divine authority, strength, and wisdom. In the tales of Odin, the spear also played a special role at the start of military campaigns. The god would hurl Gungnir over the ranks of the combatants, thereby consecrating the first warriors of his army and placing them under his rule. This ritual had both symbolic and religious significance—it foreshadowed victory and served as a reminder of the power of the ruler of Asgard.

The coin’s design is dedicated to both sides of this extraordinary artifact, depicting its distinctive features with remarkable attention to detail. The blade and the coin’s rim are adorned with runic inscriptions, alluding to the mysterious and magical nature of Gungnir. Above the hilt is an intricately crafted scene depicting Odin traversing the world on the back of Sleipnir—his extraordinary, eight-legged steed. The ruler of the gods is accompanied by the ravens Huginn and Muninn, symbolizing thought and memory, respectively. The composition is completed by the figure of Fenrir—a mighty wolf whose appearance evokes a vision of Ragnarök and the inevitable end of the old world. The combination of runic motifs, mythological figures, and intricate details lends the design an exceptionally monumental character. The coin is a striking interpretation of one of the most legendary artifacts of Norse mythology, combining artistic merit with exceptionally rich symbolism.
