Aztec God of Death Color Silver Medal, 1 oz.

The colored edition of the silver coin has a limited mintage of 500 pieces.

Introducing a colored version of the silver medal with an image of the Aztec god of death, Mictlantecuhtli. He was the Aztec god of death and ruler of Mictlan, or the realm of the dead. Considered one of the most important deities in Aztec mythology, Mictlantecuhtli symbolized darkness, death and decay. He was often depicted as a skeleton or figure with a skull, surrounded by spiders, bats and owls, which were associated with the night and the underworld. Mictlantecuhtli played a key role in beliefs regarding the afterlife, where the souls of the dead had to pass through his realm to achieve eternal peace.

The obverse of the medal depicts a colored silhouette of the god Mictlantecuhtli in a crouched position gazing pityingly and thoughtfully at the fate of the human souls at his feet. The graphic has been kept in dark fiery tones alluding to a dark world, which is further emphasized by the volcano placed in the background. The reverse depicts the Mictlāntēcutli disk - a sculpture made in honor of the god of death in question. It was found by archaeologists in the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan in 1963. The overall effect is highlighted by the fiery-dark finish on this side of the value. The medal comes in a protective plastic cap with a certificate.
