The Statue of Liberty, a monumental statue located on Liberty Island in New York City, is one of the most iconic symbols of the United States. Designed by French sculptor Frederic August Bartholdi, the statue was officially unveiled on October 28, 1886. Also known as "Lady Liberty," the sculpture depicts the personification of freedom in the form of a woman with a torch in her hand and a diadem on her head. The torch symbolizes the light of liberty, and a plaque clasped in her hand with the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776, underscores the importance of that date to the American people.

The reverse of the copper disc presents the head of "Lady Liberty" with a distinctive diadem resting on her head. There are 13 stars arranged around the head. The obverse of the medal depicts an intricate shield design consisting of eagle wings behind an American shield with three stars and an American flag above. The obverse reads the weight and sample of the copper.
