The Somali Elephant is part of the "African Wildlife" collection, inspired by wild animals found in Africa.

The series of silver bullion coins had its beginning in 2004. The currencies are part of the African Wildlife collection and are its most famous series originating from Somalia. An interesting feature, giving these currencies a collectible character, are the images of animals that change every year. The protagonist of the reverses of these coins is the African elephant, known locally in the country as the Somali elephant, the most common elephant species in Africa.

On the reverse we see a pair of elephants, an adult individual and a baby elephant. The animals are placed in an African setting typical of the savannah there. At the very top, the name of the AFRICAN WILDLIFE series is placed in the rim, while the name of the animal is placed at the bottom, as well as the weight and purity of the silver contained in the coin. The obverse shows us the coat of arms of the republic of Somalia, along with the year of issue and the denomination of 100 shillings.
