The Australian Koala is a well-known coin series that has been around for many years and is also a collector's item.
Along with the Kangaroo,the Australian Koala is one of the most recognizable bullion coins minted by the Perth-based mint.
This internationally recognized coin made its debut on the precious metals market in 2007. This collection, like many others issued by Perth Mint, is inspired by Australia's unique fauna, specifically the friendly koalas. A distinctive feature of the series is the image on the reverse, which changes each year.
The reverse of the featured 2011 silver investment coin depicts two koala bears, a large one and a young one, assumed to be parent and cub. The bears are sitting on a eucalyptus tree, which is one of the delicacies of this friendly animal. Above is minted the name of the series - Australian Koala, and below that the year of minting of the coin, its weight and silver sample. The obverse of the coin is, as is standard for the Perth mint, an image of Queen Elizabeth II. As the official legal tender of Australia, the coin has a denomination of 1 Australian dollar.
