Fafnir is the first coin in the manufacturer's latest series, Germania Beasts.

The collection refers to the mythology of the ancient Germanic peoples, which is filled with incredible creatures, most of them deadly. One such monster for the people of those times was the legendary Fafnir - a beast with the appearance of a dragon - incredibly wise and dangerous. Fafnir was supposed to guard a great treasure, acquired by killing his own father. The motif of Fafnir is often used in modern literature, art and computer games. This dragon from Germanic mythology was also said to have inspired Tolkien in creating the character Smaug, made famous in The Hobbit.

The Fafnir coin is available for sale in three variants. The featured base variant is one ounce of pure sterling silver in natural color, with no additional refinements. It has a mintage limited to 25,000 copies.

This beautiful silver investment coin has a unique design - its reverse and obverse are linked by the figure of the titular Fafnir. The obverse additionally features information on the weight of the coin and the sample of silver used in its production. The right side also bears the inscription "Fafnir". The reverse, containing the second part of the dragon's image, also featured a two-headed eagle holding lightning bolts in its talons. Each head faces a different direction, symbolizing history and the future. The lightning bolts, in turn, are a symbol of strength and the ability to create and destroy. Above is the inscription Germania 2020 and below is the denomination - 5 marks.
