Silver Quarters Coin 25 Cents, 6.25 grams (quarters - mix of vintages)
A popular silver coin with a denomination of 25 cents.
The circulation coin was made of .900 sterling silver
The featured coin is a circulation coin with a face value of 25 cents, popularly known as a quarter. The coin debuted in 1796, and, like the 10-cent coin, was initially minted in .900 sterling silver, while the alloy was replaced by cupro-nickel starting in 1964. The choice to use 25 cents as the coin's denomination instead of the more popular decimal system derives from the old practice of dividing Spanish dollars. These coins were cut into 8 equal pieces. Two such pieces were equal to a quarter.
The reverse of the silver coin shows the left profile of the first President of the United States, George Washington. At the very top is the English equivalent of the word Liberty, and at the bottom is the maxim In God we trust. The obverse shows an American eagle sitting on a tree branch, with an olive branch visible at the bottom. At the very bottom is placed the denomination - Quarter Dollar.
Each coin contains about 5.62 grams of pure silver. We send coins from random vintages - it is not possible to choose a specific variant
