The 5 Mark coin (1891-1908) was the German Empire's circulating silver coin - made in 0.900 fineness, it weighed about 27.78 grams and had a diameter of about 38 mm. The obverse features a bust of Wilhelm II - Emperor of Germany and King of Prussia - facing right, with the inscription "WILHELM II DEUTSCHER KAISER KÖNIG V. PREUSSEN." The reverse is decorated with an imperial eagle and the inscription "DEUTSCHES REICH" with the year of minting and the denomination "FÜNF MARK." The edge of the coin bore the inscription "GOTT MIT UNS" (God with us), a characteristic feature of German coins of the period.
