Goldback is the name of a private initiative to bring into circulation a special currency that is solvent in gold. The initiative has been introduced in the state of Wyoming in the United States, among others, and aims to raise awareness of gold's role as a stable form of currency and protection against inflation. The Wyoming goldback is based on units worth 1/1000th of an ounce of gold, which are printed on special paper and can be used for purchases at merchants who accept the currency. However, they are not legal tender.

The banknote depicts the figure of Audenti, a virtue identified with boldness and fearlessness. She is pictured as a recently elected rodeo queen in her formal attire and is accompanied by her faithful horse. Much of the symbolism in this design draws on the biblical story of Esther as a wonderful metaphor for Audentia's attributes. In the story, Esther is a young woman who comes from a conquered nation and represents both an ethnic and religious minority.
