The coin was issued in a small mintage of 2,000 copies.

The coin was dedicated to one of Poland's most prominent science-fiction writers, Stanisław Lem. He was the most translated Polish writer into other languages, his books were translated into more than 40 languages, and their total circulation exceeded 30 million copies. Lem's literature very often dealt with human nature, the development of science and technology, life in space, intelligent beings and man's place in the Universe.

The reverse of this unique silver coin depicts Stanislaw Lem in profile, based on a photograph of the author from the 1960s, with a model of the rocket that stood in his study in the foreground. Referring to the artist's futuristic visions, the coin was refined using modern decorative techniques. The background was decorated with a metallic print, while the rocket model was selectively covered with gold. Some elements were covered with fluorescent paint , which makes them glow in the dark. On the obverse, in turn, in addition to markings such as the denomination or the issuing country, there is an excerpt from a drawing by Daniel Frost, made as an illustration for The Cyberiad first published in 1965.
