The Odyssey: Martial Eagle 2026 Silver Coin, 1 ounce

The South African Mint presents the latest installment in The Odyssey of the Sky series —the Martial Eagle.

We present the second coin in the new “The Odyssey” series issued by the South African Mint, dedicated to the martial eagle. The series represents a metaphorical journey through the fascinating world of African wildlife, combining striking designs with intricately crafted ornamental elements. Following the Bateleur Eagle, which kicked off the series, the next protagonist of the project is the majestic martial eagle. The coin is struck from one ounce of 999-fine silver in the highest Proof quality. 

The reverse of the coin features a graphic depiction of an armored warrior captured in a dynamic pose just after landing on a branch. The background of the coin is filled with a geometric ornament inspired by African decorative art, composed of regular rhombuses and intersecting lines. In the upper right part of the composition, the ornament transitions into stylized silhouettes of branches, creating the impression of the bird’s natural habitat. The contrast between the mirror-like, dark background and the matte, raised elements makes the eagle’s silhouette stand out clearly in the foreground. The obverse features the coat of arms of the Republic of South Africa, again embellished with decorative ornamental motifs. The inscription “2026 – SOUTH AFRICA” runs along the lower edge of the coin.
