Timon and Pumbaa are fictional characters from the animated film "The Lion King" produced by Disney. Timon is a mangrove and Pumbaa is a warthog. Together they are best friends and companions of Simba, the main character of the film. They are known for bringing a humorous element to the story and thus are responsible for many funny situations. Their characters are very different - Timon is clever and fast, while Pumbaa is more slow and not very intelligent, but they have a common trait - they are very loyal to their friend Simba.

On the reverse side, we see the three main characters of the film walking on a tree trunk. This is one of the scenes shown in the film. In order we have Simba the lion, Pumbaa and Timon depicted. And in the background behind them we see a giant full moon. The currency is the official legal tender of Niue with a denomination of 2 NZD. Thus, on its obverse there is an image of Queen Elizabeth II and the year of issue.
