According to the biblical account, Noah was the only one among all people to find favor with God Yahweh. It was he who was entrusted with the task of building a massive Ark to save his family from the coming flood. Pairs of all land animal species were also brought aboard the ship so that they could survive the cataclysm and give rise to new life on Earth. After construction was completed, God sent rain that fell continuously for forty days and forty nights. When the waters finally receded, the Ark came to rest on the slopes of Mount Ararat. As a sign of the covenant made with Noah, Yahweh placed a rainbow in the sky—a symbol of hope and God’s promise.

In the foreground is a dove with an olive branch in its beak—a sign of the end of the cataclysm and the rebirth of life. In the background, the majestic slopes of Mount Ararat can be seen.
